there are a hundred and forty-two staircases at hogwarts: wide, sweeping ones; narrow, rickety ones; some that lead somewhere different on a friday; some with a vanishing step halfway up that you have to remember to jump. then there are doors that won't open unless you ask politely or tickle them in exactly the right place oh doors that aren't really doors at all but solid walls just pretending. hogwarts is an oddity and even the building itself has a personality to go along with its residents.
