the hall is lit by torches and is quite imposing, with a ceiling so high it is barely visible and a paved flagstone floor. a wide marble staircase opposite the front doors leads to the first floor. on either side of this staircase there are two doors; the first leading to the kitchens and hufflepuff common room, the second opens to narrow passages that take you to the slytherin common room. the hall is also home to the four house hourglasses where the house points are displayed for all to see.
